Heart to Heart – from Andrea Grossman
There is a very special person who has become an important customer to Mrs. Grossman’s. Her name is Minako Hirayanagi and five years ago she gave up an extremely successful corporate career in Tokyo for a dream she couldn’t get out of her head. She wanted to open a store filled with Mrs. Grossman’s stickers.
Today, that dream is called the Red Heart Store and it is in a little neighborhood in a small town, thirty miles from Tokyo. It is only 500 square ft. but because of Minako’s incredible devotion to her customers and her wonderful talent as a sticker artist, her store is one of Mrs. Grossman’s top accounts.
Customers flock to shop in the Red Heart Store and to see what awe-inspiring creations she’s made using our stickers. Her sticker art classes are full and people come by train, by bus and by plane (it’s true!) to buy their favorite designs and learn new sticker art techniques. Minako’s two small children love to ‘work’ with their mother and her shop is always filled with the sounds of laughter and learning.
When Minako comes to the United States to visit us in Petaluma, she spends days in our art department experimenting, questioning and creating. She often comes with friends and we all have a wonderful time together. When any of our Japanese friends send me a letter – the envelope, the paper, the message – everything is a work of art and always a joyful surprise. Here is an example of something I received from one of Minako’s friends this week. Isn’t it amazing?
